Cultural probes and the value of
uncertainty
After reading this article, I knew that the
information out of probes is quite simultaneous so that the results from it
would be unexpected and impossible to analyze, which means the designer could
get wrong ideas from the probes. By accepting the result with empathy, we can
get new ideas and approaches. I didn’t know that asking and analyzing could
ruin the research. When we research something before we design the real
products or services, designers tend to be scientific and logical. (So did I)
Now I know that in the research of probes, those attitudes could blow away the
advantage of probes. Plus, it was new ideas to involve users and keep them researching
by all themselves.
Designing Robots in the Wild: in situ
prototype
I have been thinking that if the robots can
get artificial intelligence and behave by their free will, (which would be
obviously systems designed by people) it would be creepy but at the same time,
it would be a good friends to people since many Koreans feel lonely. As the statistics
show, people tend to be intimate with more physical and touchable robots and
furthermore, participants without clients tend to use more robots, which means
socially interactive robots can be also used as a human.
I was also surprised that the process of
prototyping they did was so precise and deep. I found out that All the possibilities
should be considered and conducted to get an appropriate and concrete result.
Remembering today tomorrow: exploring the
human-centered design of digital mementos
I like the idea of this experiment.
Sometimes the device can’t cover the actual need of user. These days, even
though the HCI has been becoming prominent, many companies still focus on
money-making and all the benefits they get, pretending to be a good
user-centered company. This mechanism wouldn’t be able to improve user’s convenience
and satisfies users. Thus, I guess making digital mementos would be necessary
for designer to think more about the purpose of devices.
